Design, comfort and battery life

The Oppo W11 - also named Oppo Enco W31 Lite - has an oval charging case that looks a bit like that of the Samsung Galaxy Buds, not too big but neither the most compact. That can be seen clearly when opening the lid: the earpieces have lots of unused space around them. The case can recharge the earbuds four times fully before needing new power itself, which it gets via the USB-C port. A single LED-light on the front indicates the battery status.

The earbuds reach up to 5 hours playtime on a single charge, an average yet solid score in this price range under 50 dollars.

In your ears, the generic shiny white dots look cheaper than they are. But the main problem with them is their material on the inside. Oppo opted for a super-smooth matte white plastic, which makes it possible they slide out of your ears easily when you take them out running or otherwise working out. While smiling broadly or moving your ears doesn't change the fit, you can have the feeling you're pushing the buds outwards.

The soft material and oval shape do make the W11 comfortable for medium-sized ears.

Connectivity and controls

Connectivity on the Oppo W11 is robust. The Bluetooth 5.0 signal keeps stable up to ten meters from your smartphone, also when there are thin walls in between. The connection also holds when you're cycling or walking with them.

Unfortunately, you can't charge an earpiece while you're listening to the other. The earbuds will only charge when they're both in the case. Music also doesn't pause automatically when you take a bud out.

You control the W11 with the touch panels on the side, and controls are convenient and respond fairly well to your touch. With a single tap on either of the buds, you play or pause the music. By two taps on the right bud you skip a song; by double-tapping the left bud, you return a track. Touch the sides three times and you'll activate the voice assistant on your phone.

It's also possible to change the volume on the earbuds. Hold the right side to increase, the left to decrease it. The longer you hold, the bigger the change. The Oppo gives gentle, nice-sounding beeps for every successful action.

Calling and watching movies

Calling with the Oppo W11/ W31 Lite is not a very pleasant experience. Your voice sounds loud and clear to the other end of the line, but so do surrounding noises from engines, traffic, and people talking around you. There can be crackles on the line as well. Calling is convenient in quieter indoor areas, however.

Watching videos is a blast. The Oppo W11 has perfect synchronization between audio and video, even on the challenging YouTube-app. This goes for both Android and iPhone.

Sound quality of Oppo W11/ Oppo Enco W31 Lite

The bass on the Oppo W11 can be shy in acoustic, classical songs or rock music, but unleashes itself in more uplifting genres. Then… the bass gets really powerful. A strong-slamming mid-bass welcomes pop, dance, and hip-hop songs. It can get a little boomy in the most bass-heavy tracks, though.

A bulbous bass or not - the rest of the sound on the Oppo has something easy-going and natural over it. The higher frequencies go well with each other.

The lower-mids, like drums and darker electronic tones, are represented well but don't color the music dark. Upper mid-tones, such as violins and higher-pitched (female) vocals, sound slightly forward and have impressive clarity, yet they don't become too bright or harsh. The mids in between are smooth, with piano plays, claps and guitars sounding laidback, and darker male vocals recessed.

Adding to the pleasant sound is the soundstage, which feels around you in an - again - natural way. Effects and layers come from your left, right and front of you, and it's possible to place instruments around you in easier-going songs. Music on the Oppo W11/ W31 Lite has an airy feel - and all its dynamics are kept in higher volumes. It can go loud enough on both iPhone and Android.

While the bass may occasionally be a tad too boomy, the Oppo W11 or W31 Lite sounds clear and even natural overall.

Oppo W11/ Enco W31 Lite comparisons

Oppo W11 vs Haylou T19

The Haylou T19 is another pair of $30 wireless earbuds with shiny white design. It has an analytical, if a bit sharper, sound than the Oppo W11, with more extended highs, a more layered bass and a bigger soundstage. The sound is just more outspoken, more detailed than that of the W11. It also has better call quality, whereas the Oppo has better and more controls.

Oppo W31 Lite vs Mpow M30

You can't have a $30 wireless earbuds review without the Mpow M30, with its similar 5 hours battery life, but handy sport-wings that make them great for workouts. The Mpow M30 has a brighter sound, with more emphasis on upper-mids and highs, but also a tighter bass. It sounds more balanced on lower-volumes and more uplifting on higher volumes than the Oppo, which in return has a more balanced approach.

Oppo W11 vs Fiil T1XS

The Fiil T1XS (ranging from $50 to $80) also combines a steady, strong bass with outstanding upper-frequencies, but it takes a less laidback approach than the Oppo. The darkest to the highest vocals sound more forward on the Fiil, and instruments show more detail and texture. The Oppo has a deeper sounding bass and a larger soundstage.

Oppo W11 vs Alien Secret Qcc010

The Alien Secret QCC010 boasts one of the biggest batteries (7 hours on a single charge) and perhaps the largest soundstage on ultra-budget wireless earphones. It sounds airier than the Oppo, and brighter too, with more emphasis on mids and upper-mid tones. Bass is cleaner, tighter than the Oppo's, which strikes easier. The Oppo is a smoother listen.

Oppo W31 Lite vs Earfun Air

The Earfun Air also has a smooth, pleasant sound you can listen to for hours, yet has more definition than the Oppo. It has tighter bass, more space in between instruments, and extends highs further, making female vocals more vibrant - but it can sound thinner than the W11 on higher volumes, which also has a stronger bass.

Oppo W11 vs Aukey EP-T25

The Aukey EP-T25 can fulfill your craving to a massive bass under 50 dollars as well - by costing only half. It has way less emphasis on mids and highs, making music sound more muffled and dark than the Oppo does - yet the bass is even stronger if that's what you're after.
