Design, comfort and battery life
The Air Pro 2 is the third pair of wireless earphones Earfun that comes with a stem-design, after the Earfun Air and Earfun Air Pro. Whereas the last predecessor was a design borrowed from the Edifier TWS NB2, the Air Pro 2 has an original design again.
Well, original… the Air Pro 2 looks like your everyday noise cancelling-earbuds. They come with short stems and a fingerprint-sensitive gloss on the outside. On top of the stems are oval mounds that go diagonally into your ears, and wear an oval rubber ear-tip near the end. This oval shape applies less pressure than fully round ear-tips, making the Earfun comfortable in your ears. Twist the buds a bit, and they block out a lot of noise passively and stay in tight. It's doable to run or work out with these, and the IPX5 rain-resistant waterproof rating will help with that.
Per charge, the earbuds play up to 6 hours of playtime with ANC on - up to an hour longer with the function turned off. That's 1,5 hours longer than the Apple AirPods Pro and most competitors in this price range. The case can recharge them nearly four times fully before needing new power via USB-C or wireless charging itself.
The case isn't the smallest and is prone to scratches. The oval 'pebble' has a multi-color LED light on the front to indicate the remaining battery life, and there's enough room inside for big ear-tips on your earbuds. It's easy to take the buds out as well - it's all just very straightforward.
Controls and connectivity
You operate the Earfun Air Pro 2 with touch sensors on the top of the stems. The touch panels respond well to your input, and the control scheme is extensive yet logical:
Double-tap L or R to play/ pause music
Tap R to increase the volume
Tap L to decrease volume
Triple-tap R to skip to the next track
Triple-tap L to return to the previous song
Hold R to activate the voice assistant
Hold L to cycle between ANC on, Transparency mode, and ANC off
All the controls are right on the earbuds, and it won't take long before you're used to them.
Connectivity on the Air Pro 2 is solid too. The earbuds pair and connect fast when you take them out of the case, the Bluetooth 5.2 connection holds strongly up to 9 meters away from your device, and you can always switch between listening to two or one earbud - for example, if you want to charge the other side.
Music automatically pauses when you take an earbud out - and unlike on so many competitors, this works flawlessly.
Calling and watching movies
The Earfun Air Pro 2 performs outstanding for phone calls and video calls such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom meetings.
Your voice sounds loud and full, and noise like chatter, traffic, and constant background noises, are successfully left out of the call. Sudden closeby sounds, like claps and slamming doors, do come through but have the highest notes cut off, so they don't disturb too much or sound too loud. Only talking directly into a fierce wind is challenging, like it almost always is. As the other end of the line sounds great as well, the Air Pro 2 is a delight for phone calls.
Watching videos is easy as well, with perfect synchronization between audio and video on Android and iPhone. There is some delay in sound effects when you're playing games, however.
ANC Noise cancelling test of Earfun Air Pro 2
The Earfun Air Pro 2 has three settings: ANC on, Transparency mode, and ANC off. You cycle between the functions by holding the left earbud; an English female voice introduces the next function. The earbuds start with the function you ended with the last time - very convenient.
ANC mode quality: Active noise cancelling on the Earfun Air Pro 2 works wonderful. The round earpieces already block quite a bit of noise out of themselves. With the ANC activated, your surroundings are instantly heavily muted. Brighter background sounds, like traffic and distant chatter, disappear completely. Constant darker sounds such as fans and fridge humming are hugely reduced, although sudden darker sounds like a train passing by or talking closeby are still partially audible. Even when you're not playing music, the ANC on these earbuds is a joy to use. Start a song or call on even the lowest volume, and your surroundings disappear completely.
Transparency mode quality: The Transparency mode successfully lets you hear and localize traffic near you. Brighter sounds appear tinny and metallic, but this emphasis also makes it possible to hear cars around you when you're listening to music on moderate volume. It's less suitable to pick up voices when you're playing music, however.
Wind noise reduction: Both the ANC and Transparency modes let in a big amount of wind noise when you're running or cycling with them. It's nice then to also have the option to turn ANC off - it immediately kills wind noise again.
The Earfun Air Pro 2 offers great noise cancellation for its price and can easily compete with more expensive models offering the function - including the AirPods Pro.

Sound quality of Earfun Air Pro 2: Pleasant
The Earfun Air Pro 2 has a mildly strong bass thump that provides plenty of energy to modern genres like dance and electronic pop songs but doesn't overpower the music. The bass sounds rather deep and has an engaging mid-bass slam, even though it has a rather laidback pace and bloats on a bit - meaning bass tones are smeared out somewhat. As soon as an otherwise strong sub-bass or multiple basslines kick in, things can get a little muddy.
The boosted lower mid-tones give the music a pleasant warm tone. Drums are emphasized, and as darker electronic notes are elevated as well, the Air Pro 2 provides dance genres with their typical flow - and more acoustic genres like jazz and blues have a soothing, nightly vibe. Music also feels around you - there's air to it, with vocals neatly in the center and instruments coming from your left and right.
Instruments themselves, however, don't show big amounts of detail. Center mid-tones like guitars and piano are there, but a bit recessed. Vocals - from darker male ones to higher female voices - are a tad more prominent than other instruments and layers, but just about so, aiming for smoothness rather than clarity. The Air Pro 2 rolls off the highs quickly, before they become bright or harsh.
This approach makes for a very friendly sound most of the time, but the limited space around vocals does mean some higher-pitched singers can strike as a bit thin or metallic. This effect appears mostly on higher volumes - the Air Pro 2 can go from bedroom-proof soft to plenty loud indeed.
The Earfun Air Pro 2 doesn't deliver the most detailed or analytical sound, but its warm, gently bassy sound is easy to listen to and pleasant to the ears.

Earfun pro 2 vs Soundcore Life P3
With better build quality and extensive app support, the Soundcore Life P3 feels like a slightly more expensive product at around the same price. The call quality of the Earfun is a bit better and its ANC is stronger - it shows less white noise and cuts off even more higher sounds around you. The Earfun sound is easier to listen to, with a gentler mid-bass and more laidback upper-mids. The Soundcore is more in-your-face, both with its thumpier and stronger bass, and more upfront, thicker vocals, and upper-mids. On top, it has tons of equalizing options from the app.

The 1more may have been the best choice for the strongest noise-cancelling under $100, but it sees a strong competitor in the Earfun. Both do a terrific job of ruling out your surroundings; the 1more is slightly better in reducing higher notes, the Earfun in darker sounds - but the difference is peanuts. Calling on both is reliable, and so is the sound quality - the Air Pro 2 presenting a bassier and warmer sound with smoother higher frequencies. The ComfoBuds Pro is more balanced and extends highs further and can get louder than the Earfun - although it sounds a tad splashy when you turn it up. The Earfun wins on two specs: waterproof rating and battery life.
Earfun Air Pro 2 vs Tronsmart Onyx Apex
If strong ANC isn't your main concern, but you like good call quality and a pleasant warm sound, you could save yourself some bucks with the Tronsmart Onyx Apex. The Tronsmart and Earfun handle phone and video calls greatly, but you don't have to raise your voice so much when you're out with the Earfun's, as these earbuds silence noise for you. Connectivity on the Earfun is stronger, and so is battery life. The Tronsmart reveals slightly more mid-detail in the sound department, which mostly benefits vocals in rock and more acoustic songs. The Earfun has a stronger and deeper-feeling bass and sounds thicker in higher-pitched vocals. Both sound pleasantly warm.
Verdict
The Earfun Air Pro 2 has strong active noise-cancelling, excellent call quality, and pleasant sound. It's a great AirPods Pro alternative priced well under $100.
